The Knifty Knitter Craze




I think my 20-yr-old daughter may be getting a little worried about me. She says I'm starting to do "granny" things. Granny things? I think she's referring to the fact that I have been spending a lot of my time trying to learn how to knit with these looms. So far I've made a few sweaters for her Chihuahua, a scarf, and the slipper socks.

Today, I just may have learned how to crochet. It's in the embryotic stage, but it's a start at least. I guess today was a day for trying out new things.

    I never knitted or crocheted in my life. I was intrigued by the round looms, but thought in hot humid Houston knitting caps and scarves totally useless.

    Then I saw the long loom set, and bought it immediately because I like shawls, and wanted to get into the "prayer shawl" mininstry--so I use the two largest. I use doubled, medium weight yarn in camo and masculine colors for prayer-shawls for men in wheelchairs, who like them more than I expected! (I sometimes find bargain yarn in second-hand stores) Despite Provo company's abysmally bad instructions, and with the aid of excellent internet videos, I have now made four shawls: two rectangular, two triangular.

    I am now waiting for Hobby Lobby's next 40% off newspaper coupon to aquire the large "serenity loom" to make ponchos, afghans, and throws.

    I don't know if Yarn works are considered "granny" things, but I have been crocheting since I was 8 years old(I am 16) and I have been using the KK looms for 2 years.

    I love the KK and I'm in my 20's! Guess I'm a granny too! :) I love your dog sweater, going to make one for my moms dog.

    I love the fact that items knit up so quickly and that I can use my non dominant hand to do the work. I figure this is good to strengthen my left hand and the right side of my brain, while not aggrevating the tendonitis in my right arm.

    I've just recently purchased a Knifty Knitter - and I've just learned about the prayer shawl. I've not been able to find a pattern for the shawl using the KK. Do you have one you'd be willing to share?
